WHO WE ARE: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers, both men and women, dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. THINK GLOBALLY: Kiwanis International was founded in Detroit, Michigan on January 21, 1915. There are over 200,000 adult Kiwanians and more than 325,000 K-Family members in 80 countries and geographic areas around the world. KI’s recently completed worldwide service project, in conjunction with UNICEF, helped to Eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the face of the earth. This project followed KI’s previous successful project, also with UNICEF, of eliminating Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of intellectual disabilities, worldwide.Click here to visit the Kiwanis International web page. ACT LOCALLY: The Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville is one of more than 170 Kiwanis Clubs in the Capital District of Kiwanis, providing community service throughout Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. See the Capital District web page to read past issues as well as the latest issue (Aug-Sept) of the Capital Kiwanian news magazine.Especially interesting this year are the messages of leadership and encouragement from Capital District Kiwanis Governor, Charlottesville’s own Eric Lamb.
