WHO WE ARE: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers, both men and women, dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.  Chartered on April 3rd, 1922, the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville has approximately 30 members who come from many different backgrounds and are all dedicated to fulfilling our motto: ” Serving the Children of the World.” See the six permanent Objects of Kiwanis under the “About Us” tab and remember  #KidsNeedKiwanis

THINK GLOBALLY: Kiwanis International was founded in Detroit, Michigan on January 21, 1915. There are over 175, 224 adult members and more than 273,285 youth members in 14,346 clubs in 83 countries and geographic areas around the world.  KI’s recently completed worldwide service project, in conjunction with UNICEF, helped to Eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the face of the earth.  This project followed KI’s previous successful project, also with UNICEF, of eliminating Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of intellectual disabilities,  worldwide. The latest idea from Kiwanis International for how Kiwanians can make a difference around the world is called The Possibility Project. “Through the Kiwanis Children’s Fund, $2.25 addresses the needs of one child. Imagine the possibilities if we raised $25 million — enough for Kiwanis clubs and members to serve 10 million children around the world. That’s the goal of The Possibility Project. As an IMPACT CLUB we are urged to join the first fundraising campaign that solely supports Kiwanis and the children we serve through club service projects.” Special emphasis projects address: 1) Health & Nutrition; 2) Reading & Literacy; 3) Leadership Development.

ACT LOCALLY: The Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville is one of more than 170 Kiwanis Clubs in the Capital District of Kiwanis, providing community service throughout Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. See the Capital District web page to read past issues as well as the latest issue (Aug-Sept’26) of the Capital Kiwanian news magazine. Charlottesville is one of ten Kiwanis Clubs in Division 9 of the Capital District. (Waynesboro, Staunton, Shenandoah Valley, Harrisonburg, Alleghany Highlands, Jackson River Area, Greenbrier Valley, Rockbridge Area Club,and the brand new Culpeper Club.)
